Family Festival 2009

FEN EDGE FAMILY FESTIVAL :: 18-21 June 2009

What a weekend! What a party!

Thousands of people attended and had a wonderful time, the community spirit in this part of Cambs is clearly alive and well! The Fen Edge Community Association (FECA) is very pleased to have sponsored, underwritten and organised this event. FECA is run by volunteers. It is a registered charity and covers the 5 villages, Waterbeach, Landbeach, Willingham, Rampton and Cottenham (the catchment area for Cottenham Village College). FECA provides facilities for recreational and leisure time to improve community life for everyone. It works in partnership with Cottenham Village College for activities promoted by FECA. It creates opportunities for its member groups to form (e.g. the Archaeology group following 2007’s FEFF), thrive and develop by, for example, having a cheap stall at FEFF or Fun Run or by making a grant. Recent grants have been to establish an Arts Development officer based at CVC, Swimming Pool, Cottenham Sports Centre and Cottenham Community Centre (former Methodist church). Member groups also get reduced room hire rates at CVC and free advertising in the Fen Edge News that FECA publishes. Member groups may also use the minibuses at CVC and there are trained volunteer drivers. Fen Edge Family Festival. The intention is to enable all of us, of whatever age and background, to have a great Family weekend and bring the community together to learn more about each other and what different groups of people do and to remind ourselves of our great community spirit. It is an opportunity for member groups and charities to raise funds and awareness of their activities. We were delighted with the involvement of local Groups in planning and running particular events. We were sponsored in kind for a number of items that would otherwise have been expensive. Nevertheless the cash cost is expected to exceed
£16,000.

We are very grateful for our 2009 sponsors without whom the event would not have been possible.

The central FECA organisers would like to thank all the Organisations, Leaders and Helpers that arranged particular events and supported the overall 2009 organisation.

We would also like to thank the many Night Security Stewards, Stewards, Litter Pickers and Helpers (with apologies to anyone we have missed) We would like to thank the businesses with which we are pleased to have dealt - they were great and we would be pleased to recommend them to anyone. In addition we would like to thank the stallholders - both member groups and commercial organisations.

Competition Winners
Monster Sculpture Competition
A big thank you to Amanda MacPhail for organising yet another wonderful sculpture competition. She said “if a prize could have been awarded to everyone who was a winner, then they all qualified. Everyone’s effort, imagination and hard work that went in to each and every sculpture was amazing. All in all 120 fantastic entries. Anthony Gormley was having lunch at Jesus College - he was missing a treat of sculpture in Cottenham. Many thanks to Alastair Hull of Haddenham Galleries for judging.
