“The history at the bottom of your garden”
The Fen Edge Archaeology Group will be showing how much everyone can discover about the past, without having to step outside their own local area. We have already been finding out about the last 2000 years of the Fen Edge: through fieldwalking; village trails; expert talks; and our test pit excavations in Cottenham gardens. We will be presenting finds from all of these activities at FEFF 2009 and letting everyone know how they can join in our future activities. We will give everyone a taste of archaeology by running a test pit excavation, where you can see us at work and see the finds as they emerge; give the kids a taste with our sand pit excavation; and have some great finds from our recent projects on show for people to see.
Finds from the bottom of your garden
How many of us have kept hold of the strange and old looking things we dig up in our gardens? Have you ever wondered just what that old bit of stuff was? Well we have an expert on hand to help you to identify and date those relics we all keep tucked away gathering dust. Richard Mortimer, Project Manager from Oxford Archaeology East will be at our stand at FEFF 2pm – 4pm on Saturday 20th June. So bring along your old bits of pottery, metal, bone, tile – whatever and he can tell you just what they are and how they fit in with our history.
