Grass Area - Arts & Culture (Sunday)
Archaeological Dig 10.00 - 17.00

Finds Tent – On the Green

The Fen Edge Archaeology Group will again be demonstrating archaeological processes by digging a test pit on the Cottenham village green during Saturday and Sunday.

During the 2009 Festival there was a great interest in what we learned about the former pond on the green, filled in 1928, and in what had been thrown into it! Just in a pit one metre by one metre square we came across bottles and jars, the front end of a bicycle, a teapot, paint cans and other pieces of decaying metal, broken glass and remains of 1920s radio batteries! One of the 1928 bottles found matched perfectly the theme of the 2009 Festival sculpture competition. It had the word ‘Monster’ moulded down the side and was lifted from the ground at about the time the sculpture competition, based on the theme of ‘Monsters’, was being judged!

This year’s Festival theme is ‘Flowers’. What links might we find between the past and the present this year? Do come and see what else we learn about the village from another test pit and talk to us about what archaeology is, what we do and whether you might like to join us.

Police Vehicles 10.00 - 17.00

As long as they are not called away – various police vehicles will be visiting us throughout the weekend. Feel free to talk to the officers in charge and try out the siren!

SCULPTURE Competition 10.00 - 15.00

The Fourth Sculpture Competition – The Flower Show With A Difference

The Monster Sculpture Competition of 2009 saw the most amazing range of wonderfully creative Monsters with over one hundred entries. It was spectacular. This year the theme is to be The Flower Show.

Now this is no ordinary Flower Show. We are wanting flowers from tiny to enormous, from beautiful to wacky and from every kind of material imaginable. Using paper, metal, wood, recycled materials, fabric the list is as long as your imagination. Perhaps too sculptures can be made using the flowers ......... what possibilities! Bring your sculptures to the Green from 10:30. Prize giving around 13:30 by Bob Flowerdew.

The competition will be held and judged today on the Green. There are seven categories. Under 5, 6–8, 9–11, 12–16 Family, Business & Clubs and Adults.
